Dr Jamie

The founder of our practice back in the late 19th century. We are grateful to Dr Jamie's granddaughter Barbara Puesley for helping us to find out more about him.

He came to Coalville in 1882, in 1892 he was appointed Medical Officer of Health for the Coalville Local Board. He had a particular interest in the health and conditions of local miners, and is mentioned in the book "Banded Together" about the Whitwick colliery disaster of 1898.

He is pictured with his wife and four children.

In later life he was apparently a keen gardener, and was particularly successful at growing grapes.

Sadly he was killed in a car accident in September 1929.
